Presence
A figure arrives before it explains itself. Gesture, posture, and color speak first.

A human system
In Gustlin's paintings, the figure is never merely observed. It is inhabited—a vessel for memory, hesitation, desire, resilience, and all the invisible systems that make a life.
Bodies rise from layered fields as if the surface itself has remembered them. A shoulder becomes horizon. A gesture becomes weather. Skin carries the same histories as earth, wall, and sky.
Some figures arrive alone; others gather into constellations. Myth and the present tense coexist. The human form is ancient, unfinished, and always becoming something more.

Earlier marks remain beneath the skin of the painting, carrying time forward.
The body is never fixed. It opens into atmosphere, mythology, and possibility.

Gustlin's figures share the same layered intelligence as her systems paintings. Marks gather, structures loosen, and another form emerges. The body is a pattern—but never a predictable one.
